Serials
after viewing individual screen shots, please click your browser's back button to return to this page

The main view of the Serials database allows the user to select a view to browse by one of several views.  The patron also sees both master holding documents and issue documents in the main view.  These views are the main areas of navigation for the library patron.  Requests for issue loans and reprints can be made with the click of a button.   Patrons can view articles if the library staff has chosen to abstract articles for the serials database and make requests for article copies.

Library staff have access to additional views such as the issue awaiting check in view where issues can be checked in and the overdue issues view which allows staff to create claim notices for issues that have not been received by their due date.  Both the master holding and issue documents contain additional data that is not visible to the patron when those documents appear in edit mode.

Serials Circulation
When individual issues are requested for loan, they are sent to a Serials Circulation database where the library staff can manage the circulation of these items.  There are two main sets of views: issue loan requests and issue reprint requests.  Library staff can view both issue loan history and issue reprint history.  The loan document contains all information about the loan transaction and provides an easy method of checking items back in with the click of a button.

Serials Routing
The Routing database is intended to provide librarians with the ability to easily and efficiently:
- maintain views of routing lists
by patron and by periodical
- maintain the
route lists for each copy of a periodical
- maintain lists of employees with Notes who wish to receive notification by Notes mail when new issues have arrived and those without Notes who wish to receive hard copies of tables of contents when new periodicals arrive

List maintenance also includes the ability to easily copy or "clone" the names from one periodical's routing list to the routing list of another periodical.

The Routing database contains a directory of all patrons who are on the list for physical routing of a periodical and those who receive email notifications.  The patron maintenance function enables library staff to make global deletions of a patron from a routing list or a global replace of patron data on routing lists.  Another patron maintenance function includes the ability to
"clone" a patron's routing lists to a new patron's name.

While all of the data related to routing lists are stored within the Routing database mailing lists are created automatically during check in of issues in the Serials database.  Labels can be printed directly from Serials during check in.  Email notifications are also automatically done during issue check in.
