The Research module provides a sophisticated business information repository while enhancing control of the research process.  On one hand the Research Knowledgebase is a repository of critical intellectual capital and on the other hand the administrative aspects of the module offer robust workflow to manage research requests made by library patrons.

First, a
research request is entered via Notes or a Web browser by a patron.  Library staff notification enables the manager to assign the request to a researcher.  The researcher receives an email notification and clicks a link to view the new request or visits a view that shows requests by researcher.  The research is performed and critical information is stored within the research request.  The patron is notified and provided a link to view the results.  Time and cost of the Research process is captured into the charge data form.   Finally, the researcher catalogs the research information and makes a decision to post the results as a permanent part of the Research Knowledgebase.  This completes the Research process.

Research Knowledgebase

The Knowledgebase views in Research enable library staff to store not just the results of the Research process but many different types of data.  In fact, a library may choose to create a number of different Research Knowledgebase files to store data on different topics.  Included in the Knowledgebase views is the ability to store a directory of experts on various subject fields.  The expert document can contain information about a member of the library's parent organization, an author or any other expert.
